Our Veterinarians

Kim VanWagner, D.V.M.

 Dr. Kim is a 1999 graduate from Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine and is owner and small animal practitioner at VHNW. She has a special interest in critical care and internal medicine.

Dr. Kim and Dr. Steve were married March 4, 2000 and they have 3 children, Haley, Tyler and Garrett. She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association. When she has time she enjoys running, snow skiing and traveling. She is a member of University Heights Baptist Church and volunteers at the Pregnancy Care Center when able.

Steve VanWagner, D.V.M., M.S.

 Dr. Steve is a 2000 graduate from Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine and is owner and equine practitioner at VHNW. Prior to attending Texas A&M to obtain his vet degree, he attended Colorado State University where he earned his Masters Degree in Equine Reproduction.  Upon graduating, he spent 2 years working at an equine referral hospital outside of San Antonio. Dr Steve has a special interest in lameness and in all aspects of reproduction. He is a member of the American Association of Equine Practitioners. When not practicing veterinary medicine, he enjoys out door projects, taking his kids hunting and snow skiing. He is a member of University Heights Baptist Church.

Our Team

Stephanie Johnson, Office Manager

 

Stephanie has been with VHNW since 2005 working as Receptionist and then promoted to Office Manager. She has been married to Matt Johnson since 1990 and has 2 sons Kyle and Garner as well as 1 dog and 1 cat. She is our go to “tech support” staff member as one of her hobbies is working on computers as well as reading.

She is on the board at the Walker County Federal Credit Union. Her knowledge of computer hardware/software, and problem solving as well as her professional relationship with clients makes her a valuable part of our team.

Britni Rinehart, L.V.T.

 

Britni is a Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) graduating from Lonestar Veterinary Technology Program in 2006 and has been a VHNW team member since April 2011. Britni is our equine technician and is a member of the American Association of Equine Veterinary Technicians (AAEVT) but has brought a variety of experience with her having come from a feline only practice for many years.

Her versatility with animals big and small have made her very valuable to us. She is married to Ocie and has 2 great danes, 1 cat and a Ball Python. Outside of her full-time job with VHNW, she enjoys classic car shows, camping, drag races and spending time with family and friends.

Gisela Rios (Gigi), L.V.T.

 Gigi is a Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) graduating from Vet Tech Institute of Houston in 2015 and has been a VHNW team member since April 2015. Gigi is one of our small animal technicians. She started as an extern and was shortly offered a team position. She is bilingual, which is an important asset to our VHNW family. She has a special interest in taking care of the ill pet. She is a proud animal mom of 6 dogs and 2 cats and loves escaping to the movies and the beach.  

Melissa Allen, C.V.A. II

 

Melissa is a Certified Veterinary Assistant (CVA ll) through TVMA and has been with VHNW since January of 2007. She is a member of the American Society of Veterinary Dental Technicians and is a Certified Dental Technician which supports her passion for pets and their teeth.

Melissa is married to Vince and has 2 boys, Chance and Ryan. She is also the proud owner of 9 boxers and one 2- legged rat terrier. When she has time away from the clinic she enjoys escaping to the beach, gardening and reading. She is an active member of Bethel Baptist Church.

Megan Dabney, C.V.A. I

 Megan is a Certified Veterinary Assistant (CVA I) through TVMA and has been with VHNW since January 2016. She is one of our technician assistants and assists in both small animal and equine. She is currently attending Sam Houston State University and interested in finding a career that allows her to work with animals or gives her the free time to spoil her pets. She currently shares her home with a rowdy Siberian husky and enjoys spoiling her horse who has a difficult job of serving as a pasture ornament. 

Madison Perdue, C.V.A. II

 Madison is a Certified Veterinary Assistant (CVA II) through TVMA and has been with VHNW since summer of 2015. She started volunteering as an extern and was quickly offered a kennel technician position. After obtaining her certification, she was promoted to a technician assistant, assisting in both small animal and equine. She also holds the title of kennel supervisor. She is currently attending Sam Houston State University majoring in animal science with a goal of becoming a future veterinarian. She loves spending time with her family and pets.
